The Mexican airline Volaris signed a contract with the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus for the purchase of 44 aircraft in order to significantly increase its capacity and meet national and international market demands.
According to information from the company, the transaction “is the largest” by a national company, The deal amounts to the largest single commercial aircraft order ever by an airline in Mexico, which is valued at an investment of close to 4.4 Billion dollars.
“The 44 aircraft will double the current fleet of the airline’s Airbus and contribute to its expansion and fleet renewal. The airline currently operates 34 Airbus aircraft and has a backlog of another 58, including this new order, “he said.
According to Enrique Beltranena, CEO of the company, with these actions, the airline intends to keep its rates.
He explained that A320neo model aircraft consume 1.4 million gallons of jet fuel less, which is equivalent to using a thousand cars.
This reduction represents a savings rate of 3 thousand 600 tons of CO2 per aircraft for the environment.
The addition of 44 A320s will more than double the airline’s all-Airbus fleet to support further expansion and fleet-renewal plans. The airline now operates 34 Airbus aircraft and has 58 more on order.
