Mexico defeats Angola in soccer match at Reliant ‎

They covered Reliant Stadium in a sea of green Thursday night, trickling in from at least 20 states and four countries. And for the most part, the partisan crowd arrived with two objectives: to say adios to the Mexican national team and see a victory.

The Mexican national team didn’t disappoint.

Andres Guardado scored in the 53rd minute to give Mexico a 1-0 victory over Angola in the final game of El Tri’s pre-World Cup U.S. tour before a crowd of 70,099.

The crowd was the third largest to watch a soccer game at Reliant Stadium, trailing only the 70,550 that saw Barcelona play Club America in 2006 and the 70,103 that saw Mexico and the U.S. on Feb. 6, 2008.

Mexico had a goal disallowed early because of an off-side call on Adolfo Bautista, one of the players in danger of being cut when Mexico plays its final World Cup friendly in North America on Sunday against Chile in Mexico City.
