Cinco de Mayo brings taste of Mexico

5 DE MAYO

Cinco de Mayo

Community members brought a little bit of Mexico to the Boardman Marina Park Saturday in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, which this year lands on a Monday.

The fun began in the morning with a children’s futbol (aka soccer) tournament, in addition to volleyball and softball for the grownups.

Then, shortly after noon, volunteers kicked off the music and entertainment with a salute to the American and Mexican flags.

Atrayu Corpus and two other boy scouts presented the stars and stripes to the “Star Spangled Banner,” followed by a group of young women from Riverside High School, who took the Mexican colors and performed a traditional march before saluting at the chest for the Mexican anthem.
