Head of Mexico’s Central bank: We are not abandoning the dollar

Carstens clarified that Mexico is not abandoning the U.S dollar with it’s  purchase of gold  last week , only that Mexico has diversified it’s foreign reserves position. The governor of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), Agustin Carstens, said that this strategy is not to flee the dollar.

At a press conference at the quarterly inflation report, Carstens also noted the growing fuel subsidy may have to be revised, and public insecurity has had effects on the economy, but nevertheless Banxico has improved Mexico’s projections for this year. (more…)

2,100 University Grads To Join The New Police Force In Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.

The head of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) federal, Genaro García Luna, said it will seek to incorporate 2,100 young University grads into in the creation of the new Police Force in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.

In trip to the border city, the official said that college graduates will be provided with methodologies in investigation and on gathering intelligence. The SSP will educate, train and seek to engage these young professional in creating a younger more educated security force. (more…)

Mexico’s Central Bank makes one of it’s largest purchases of gold in its history

The Bank of Mexico (Banxico) made one of the largest purchases of gold in its history, in an attempt to diversify their assets over the possession of  the U.S dollar, given the weakness of that currency.

The purchase, made between January and March, includes nearly 100 tons of gold, equivalent to 4,500 billion at its current market price.

After several international media disclosed yesterday the acquisition of gold by the Banxico released a statement confirming that the purchase represents approximately 4% of international reserves, which at the end of March, settled in U.S. $ 128,261,000. (more…)

Banxico could change Mexico’s GDP forecast within a week

The Bank of Mexico could review next week its economic growth forecast for this year, said Friday the central bank governor of that country, Agustin Carstens, citing the strength of industrial activity in the United States.

Carstens said last month that growth of the Mexican economy this year may be inclined towards a higher forecast range of 3.8% to 4.8 percent. (more…)

FEMSA’s net profit grew 8.3% in the first quarter of 2011

Mexican (FEMSA), the largest bottler of beverages in Latin America, today reported a consolidated net profit of 3,348 million pesos (288.6 million dollars) in the first quarter of 2011, which represented a growth of 8.3% over the same period of 2010.

FEMSA owns the second largest bottler of Coca-Cola products in the world in terms of sales volume, the largest chain of convenience stores (open 24 hours or free time) in Latin America (Oxxo) FEMSA also got a boost from its 20 percent stake in Dutch beer company Heineken. (more…)

Pemex reported a surplus of 6.3 billion dollars In the first quarter of the year

In the first quarter of the year, Pemex reported a surplus of 6.3 billion dollars in its trade balance in crude oil, petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas, an amount 34% higher than reported in the same period 2010.

The total income captured by the foreign trade of hydrocarbons and their derivatives was higher in 3.723 billion dollars from the same period last year. (more…)

INEGI: Mexico’s DF Buys The Most Luxury Cars

Since 2007 the state of Mexico is the second entity in the country when buying luxury cars, second only to the Federal District.

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) disclosed a new study of the Automotive Industry in Mexico’s 2010 luxury car sales. It is worth noting that until 2006 the state that was second place was Nuevo León. (more…)
