General Motors named Ernesto Hernandez, president and general manager of GM of Mexico, becoming the first Mexican to assuming this position in the country.

With this appointment, which will be effective from June 1 next Ernesto Hernandez replaced Grace D. Lieblein, who will assume the Presidency and Directorate General of the company in Brazil.

Mexican miner Grupo Mexico reported Tuesday a sharp rise in its first-quarter net profit, driven by higher metal prices and the resumption of operations of Buenavista del Cobre mine.

Mexico and 15 Caribbean countries are the only ones in Latin American who have not achieved a full recovery, which has limited their ability to regenerate employment at a relatively brisk pace, lamented the World Bank (WB).

This is “despite the strong growth in Mexico in 2010, 5.5%, which was insufficient to fully offset the sharp economic downturn of 2009,” the report said (more…)

Mexico .- The General Director of PEMEX, Juan José Suárez Coppel said that Mexico still has enough oil reserves for more than 10 years, but said that the length of these depend on the development of new technology to make efficient use of resources.

During his inaugural lecture of the second day of space activities in 2011, the official noted that oil and gas still have much future, although there are reports that there is only a little more reserves for 10 years. (more…)

The international reserves reached new highs last week above the 123 billion dollars (mdd), reports this morning the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).

In the week ending April 8, international reserves increased 556 million dollars, as pointed out by Banxico in it’s statement , with the reserves amounted to 123.149 billion dollars, a new historical high. (more…)

Mexico’s industrial production grew by 5.2% in February 2011

Mexico’s industrial activity grew by 5.2% in February 2011 compared with the same month last year, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

This improvement resulted from an increase of 7.3% in manufacturing output, the result of increased production of transport equipment, food, basic metal industries, machinery and equipment, products made of nonmetallic minerals, plastic and rubber, computer equipment, communication and measurement, electronic components, beverages and snuff.
