Mexicos Air Force has received it’s first “C-27 J Spartan” Military transport aircraft

The Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) received it’s first C-27 J Spartan from the Italian manufacturing co Alenia Aeronautica , which is part of the commitment to strengthen the capacities of the Mexican Air Force announced by President Felipe Calderon earlier this year.

The ceremony was led by the Maj. Gen. from the “Leonardo Gonzalez Garcia Air Base” in Santa Lucia, Estado de Mexico ( Mexico State) , Who announced that the modernization program includes the purchase of four more aircraft of the same type. (more…)

Silver coin commemorating the centenary of the UNAM goes into circulation

The Bank of Mexico (Banxico) put into circulation a new silver coin commemorating 100 years of the Foundation of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

The presentation ceremony of the new currency was headed by the governor of Banxico, Agustín Carstens Carstens, the UNAM rector Jose Narro Robles, and Finance Minister Jose Antonio Meade Kuribreña. (more…)

CEMEX plans to sell about 1 billion dollars in assets in 2012

The president of Cemex, Lorenzo Zambrano, explained in a meeting with analysts that the company plans to evaluate assets that generate less than 10% return on capital for possible sell in 2012.

Economic activity grew 3.74% in July

Mexico’s economic activity expanded in July more than expected by the market thanks to a rebound in industrial activity linked to the U.S., official figures showed on Wednesday.

The so-called Global Index of Economic Activity (IGAE) grew 0.88% in July , according to seasonally adjusted figures from the statistics institute, exceeding the 0.33% expected by analysts. (more…)

Mexico’s National beach soccer team debuted in the World Cup of beach soccer in the coast of Ravenna, Italy, with a 2-3 victory over Japan.
